Perfect notes award 1,000 points, Great notes award 760, Good notes award 460, and completed holds award 450, with every award multiplied by the current 1.0x to 2.0x combo multiplier.

Losing Condition

The run ends in a loss when the rock meter reaches zero. Quitting or restarting before the song finishes also ends the active ranked run as a loss.

How to Play

Choose music from your device, search the live open-music catalog, or create a procedurally generated Random Jam.

Select a difficulty and note speed, then press Play Song while the game analyzes the music and builds the note chart.

Press or hold the matching colored lane when each note reaches the receptors, aiming for Perfect timing and uninterrupted combos.

Finish the song before the rock meter empties to submit the score, view the results, replay the track, or choose another song.

Controls

  • On mobile, tap and hold the five colored buttons along the bottom of the screen when matching notes reach the receptors.
  • On a keyboard, use D, F, G, J, and K for the five lanes. Use the on-screen pause and fullscreen buttons for additional controls.

Tips

  • Watch the receptors near the bottom of the highway instead of following each note from the distant end of the stage.
  • Do not press lanes without a matching note, because overstrums break the current combo and reduce the rock meter.
  • Long combos increase the score multiplier up to 2.0x, making consistent Great hits more valuable than frequent misses between Perfect hits.
  • Use timing calibration when notes consistently feel early or late, and increase note speed after learning to read dense patterns comfortably.

Riff Rush is a true 3D WebGL rhythm game built around the music the player chooses. A song can be selected directly from the player’s device without being uploaded, streamed from a searchable catalog of open-licensed recordings, or generated locally through the Random Jam system. The game analyzes the rhythm, frequency activity, sustained sounds, and musical movement to build a five-lane note chart. Easy mode uses the middle three lanes, while Normal, Hard, and Expert use all five with increasingly dense patterns, chords, holds, and tighter timing. During each performance, players balance accuracy and consistency while protecting the rock meter and building a score multiplier through long combos. The surrounding concert venue includes animated crowds, lighting, speakers, tiered seating, and randomized space events behind the stage. Every song creates a different challenge, while local settings allow players to adjust note speed and timing calibration for their device.
