Goal

Experiment freely with materials, structures, hazards, weapons, and NPCs in Sandbox mode, or defend your friendly base through increasingly difficult enemy waves in ranked Tower Defense mode.

Scoring

Sandbox mode is unranked. In Tower Defense, the official leaderboard score is the highest wave reached during an accepted ranked run. Enemy defeats, resources, upgrades, units, base health, and active time are tracked separately for achievements.

Losing Condition

Sandbox mode has no failure condition. A Tower Defense run ends as a loss when the friendly base is destroyed, while leaving, resetting, or reaching an endless-mode checkpoint submits the current progress as completed.

How to Play

Choose Play Sandbox and select a blank, island, forest, or superflat world, or choose Tower Defense Mode for ranked progression.

In Sandbox mode, select materials, stamps, NPCs, weapons, hazards, line drawing, or the eraser, then place and interact with them directly in the world.

In Tower Defense, spend gold to queue sword, pistol, rifle, or rocket villagers, unlock stronger weapons, upgrade or repair your base, and start each incoming wave.

Clear waves by defeating the attacking enemies or destroying their base. Protect your own base, manage gold carefully, and continue through increasingly difficult waves.

Controls

  • Drag or press on the world to paint and place objects. Pinch or use the mouse wheel to zoom, and use two-finger drag, middle-mouse drag, or right-mouse drag to pan.
  • Use the on-screen menus and buttons for materials, units, upgrades, repairs, waves, saving, pausing, and settings. When possessing an NPC, use WASD or arrow keys on desktop, or the virtual stick and Action and Fire buttons on touch devices.

Tips

  • Begin Tower Defense with several affordable sword villagers instead of spending all of your starting gold on one upgrade.
  • Do not begin a new wave with a damaged base when an affordable repair could prevent an early loss.
  • Balance weapon unlocks with base upgrades because stronger villagers cannot help if the friendly base collapses too quickly.
  • Save gold between easier waves so you can unlock rifle and rocket villagers when enemy numbers and durability increase.

About Sandblast Lab

Sandblast Lab combines an open-ended falling-particle simulation with a separate strategic Tower Defense mode. In Sandbox mode, players can paint sand, dirt, grass, water, lava, and solid materials across a large zoomable world. Prefabricated trees, rocks, huts, walls, bridges, towers, gates, rafts, and bases can be added alongside villagers, enemies, fish, weapons, bombs, tornadoes, and alien UFOs. Materials react to gravity and the surrounding environment while NPCs move, fight, collect resources, and interact with constructed areas. Tower Defense changes the experience into a ranked survival challenge. Players begin with limited gold, queue armed villagers, unlock pistol, rifle, and rocket units, fortify or repair their base, and decide when to start each wave. Enemy forces become more numerous and dangerous as waves increase. The creative mode rewards experimentation, while Tower Defense focuses on resource management, preparation, unit selection, and protecting the friendly base for as long as possible.

Best For

  • Players who enjoy creative physics sandboxes, building systems, destructible environments, and experimenting without a required objective.
  • Strategy players who prefer single-player wave defense, resource management, upgrades, unit deployment, and increasingly difficult survival sessions.

Features

  • Large zoomable particle world with sand, dirt, grass, water, lava, and solid materials
  • Creative structures, NPCs, weapons, hazards, vehicles, gates, bases, and environmental interactions
  • Ranked Tower Defense mode with escalating waves, gold, unit queues, weapon unlocks, repairs, and base upgrades
  • Touch, mouse, and keyboard support with saved sandbox worlds, display settings, audio settings, and mobile controls
